They Didn’t Even Want to Fight!

The South River Fire Department Carnival was a lot of fun last night! The girls bounced and jumped and tried out these boxing gloves…but they never even threw a punch! The gloves do weigh a lot, and I think they realized what we all need to remember: Fighting is often just too heavy to bother with.

Hebrews 12:14 tells us to “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.” It’s been said that “Things that are different are not the same.” Living peaceably does not mean compromising with things that are wrong, but it does mean being FOR all people, wanting what’s best for them, even when what’s best for them isn’t what they currently want.

Have you ever met a Christian who was always ready for a fight? That definitely wasn’t Jesus, and that’s definitely not supposed to be us either! There are absolutely times to stand up for what we believe in. We are called to holiness, to live like Jesus after He has saved us and made us holy through His sacrifice on the cross, but the pursuit of holy living should always start with us looking for any sins that need to get out of our own lives.

So “put down the gloves” and enjoy the good things God brings your way while telling everyone how they can experience peace that only Jesus brings, peace that “passeth all understanding” as Philippians 4:7 puts it.
