Gives a Whole New Meaning to Being “On the Ball”

Summer fun in the pool yesterday! The girls had a great time, and the beach ball stepped it up a notch! They had fun seeing how long they could stay afloat on the ball and did a pretty good job!

The Bible gives us some helpful strategies for staying afloat even when others try to make us sink. Matthew 7:12 gives what has been called the golden rule of the Bible: “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” Maybe your mom worded that a bit differently, but the idea is clear: we should treat people right and be kind to others no matter how they treat us.

Kindness is a simple thing, but I’ll admit I fail to be kind more often than I’d like to admit. Life gets busy and we’re all treated wrongly at times. But kindness is always important and possible. The context of Matthew 7:12 explains how and why we should be kind to others even when they don’t deserve it: God’s goodness should motivate us to be kind to everyone around us.

We can let the unkindness of others drag us under, or we can rise above all that and stay afloat by being kind no matter how others treat us.
