It Helps to Have Something to Hold Onto!

Wood park for the win! We got to take the girls to one of their favorite playgrounds AND I got to play with them while Jen went to Walmart without me (BIG win!). There are a couple different ropes and balance beams at the park, and the girls have learned that this one is easier because you’ve got something to hold onto while you go across.

1 Thessalonians 5:21 says, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.” We hear ideas all the time, from a lot of different people, but not all of those ideas are helpful. You can’t go more than a few minutes online without seeing an ad for something that’s supposed to change your life and help you in some amazing way, but a lot of those things are worthless. We need to prove ideas, test them, and see what is actually good. Probably the easiest way to test something is to compare it to the right standard. The ultimate standard is the Word of God and it will always help us, always hold us up, and always guide us the right way. If you disagree, put it to the test. Don’t follow your idea of what the Bible says but follow what actually says, and I guarantee it will be true.

We don’t need the latest crazy ideas someone comes up with. Just because something is popular doesn’t mean you should do it. Just because your friends approve of something doesn’t mean it’s good.

When we live God’s way, when we take a stand for God, there is risk, but He always gives us something to hang onto! As long as the girls held onto the hand ropes, they weren’t going to fall, and as long as we hold onto God’s Word in our lives, we won’t fall into the sinful traps and bad ideas all around us.
