When Jesus Does Something Awesome, Are You Amused, Amazed, or Skeptical?

I love Brooklyn’s bold reactions! She wears her mind “on her sleeve,” and this is the kind of response I hoped for as we made this tornado tube. I wonder what kind of reaction Jesus hopes for from us as He meets our needs and does amazing things all around us.

In Matthew 9, four friends brought a sick man to Jesus, even making a hole in the roof to get him there. Jesus first responded to the man’s faith and forgave his sins. It’s amazing how often Jesus has something EVEN BETTER in mind for us than we have for ourselves!

Some people questioned who Jesus thought He was to claim to be able to forgive sins, but He was about to prove it: “But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. 7 And he arose, and departed to his house. 8 But when the multitudes saw it, they marvelled, and glorified God, which had given such power unto men” (Matthew 9:6-8).

They were amazed that Jesus could heal, and that amazement led them to glorify God. All of us see Jesus do amazing things, but not everyone marvels. Some people focus only on themselves and try to act like it was “no big deal” and miss out as they never let it affect them. Others try to take the credit for things Jesus has blessed them with, and others ignore what happened or try to “explain away” the miraculous.

Unfortunately, a lot of the people marveled but didn’t accept that Jesus was God there with them, ready to forgive THEIR sins too!

Maybe you’re an extrovert who shows BIG outward reactions, or maybe you’re terrified at the thought of a whole crowd noticing you. Either way, it’s our real, inward response to Jesus that matters most. You may not respond quite as excitedly as Brooklyn, but a genuine response to Jesus will show up all over our lives and help others glorify God too. How are you responding to what Jesus has done?
