Steering without the Other Hand Is Risky!

We’ve had some beautiful mowing weather this week (after the snow!), and it was good to hop on the zero turn. I enjoy mowing, but I’ve learned something: Mowing with a zero turn takes 2 hands! Maybe you can steer it ok with 1 hand for a bit, but letting go all of a sudden can be a bad idea! I was cruising along until I waved at a neighbor…and realized that a tree was closer than I thought! I quickly grabbed the controls with both hands and got back on course without hitting the tree, but it was clear: I need both hands to keep from veering off course.

In life, we often have a similar choice: Try to make it on our own, or allow Jesus to keep us going the right way. Just like I needed both hands to keep the zero turn from going wrong, we need Jesus to lead us and show us which way to go. When we give Him control, He not only guides us but also goes through life WITH US!

Daniel 3 gives us an amazing example of how Jesus not only shows the right way to go but also goes on that path with us no matter what. King Nebuchadnezzar sadly demanded that people worship him, but 3 Jewish guys you might be know about (Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego) refused, even though they knew they’d be thrown into a fiery furnace. How’d they take that stand and make it through the fire? With Jesus! Daniel 3:25 says, “He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Jesus was right there with them. In fact, they were safer in the fire WITH JESUS than they would have been anywhere else without Him!

We don’t need to be scared to live for Jesus, even in a culture that often hates anyone who follows Him. We should be scared to go anywhere WITHOUT Jesus because His protection matters a lot more than anyone else’s approval.

On our own, we’ll veer off course, but with Jesus, we can keep going the right way.
