Our dog is MOTIVATED to play fetch. Bella will drop the ball on a project, in a baby’s stroller (right on top of the kid), in a fireplace, on your lap, or just about anywhere she thinks will get you to throw it for her…AND IT WORKS! She gets us to throw the ball even when we don’t always want to! Nothing discourages her or makes her give up.
In Luke 11, Jesus taught about prayer, and In verses 5-8, He tells the story of a guy who didn’t want to help…but eventually did because his friend kept asking: “And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him? 7 And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee. 8 I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.” If even this grouchy neighbor will eventually help, how much more will our loving Heavenly Father help when we ask! God loves to hear from us and has specific answers and help. The friend in the story didn’t give up after asking once, and we should keep praying until we see God answer as well.
In verses 9-10 Jesus gives this challenge: “And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. 10 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
God loves to answer prayers; if He tells us no, He’s got something even better in mind. Keep praying. Often. Don’t give up if God doesn’t answer as soon as you’d like. We get God’s undivided attention when we talk to Him, so knock: He’s the One Who will answer the door!
