Sometimes it shouldn’t just be business as usual
Jen and I got to grab a quick dinner at Neighbor‘s Food Hall while the girls were at ballet (after we got to watch a goal kick shootout as the middle school boys won-Go Blazers!).
I almost always get the Mediterranean pizza from the Pizza Shack, but today I decided to mix it up and get a burger from Greers.
Sometimes “back to normal” isn’t best.
1 Samuel 13:13-15 says, “And Samuel said to Saul, Thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the LORD thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the LORD have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee. And Samuel arose, and gat him up from Gilgal unto Gibeah of Benjamin. And Saul numbered the people that were present with him, about six hundred men.”
That was quite a rebuke, but Saul got back to normal anyway.
He needed to be humble, and he needed to repent. But instead he just seems to have quickly gone back to his default mode of coping without God or godliness.
When we sin, let’s not keep going and just get back to normal.
Since we’re all sinners who sin all too often, our default mode should be one of humility and repentance.
Today's Bible reading is 1 Samuel 13.
