Sometimes it really is hard to see with the sun glaring right in your eyes!

I love this time of year even though I’m not a huge fan of how early it gets dark or the angle of the sun sometimes hits. But sometimes it’s not just the sun that blinds us.

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭20‬:‭30‬ ‭says, “Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness?”

Saul was jealous of David and let his selfish desires blind him to the spiritual reality that should’ve been obvious.

He pointed out his own flaws in other people instead if dealing with those flaws in himself!

Matthew 7:3-5 says, “And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.”

We need to clearly see our own sin and deal with it before we’re ready to help anyone else grow. And that’s a daily choice for each of us.

Today's Bible reading is 1 Samuel 20.
