Best?

I enjoyed reading this letter about our church the other day, mostly because apparently they only compared us with one other church. And we got the same score as that other church!

I’m thankful for many great churches in our area, and I’m thankful that we can all do our part to reach our community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

Our view of what’s the best is often wrong; we that was certainly the case for David in 1 Samuel 29.

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭29‬:‭6‬-‭8‬ ‭says, “Then Achish called David, and said unto him, Surely, as the LORD liveth, thou hast been upright, and thy going out and thy coming in with me in the host is good in my sight: for I have not found evil in thee since the day of thy coming unto me unto this day: nevertheless the Lords favour thee not. Wherefore now return, and go in peace, that thou displease not the Lords of the Philistines. And David said unto Achish, But what have I done? and what hast thou found in thy servant so long as I have been with thee unto this day, that I may not go fight against the enemies of my Lord the king?”

David seems to have become convinced that the Philistines’ side was the best and that he was safer and better off there than with God’s people.

That’s a little shocking from out of the giant killer! David was going through unimaginable fear and uncertainty, but those are times to trust all the more that God‘s way is the best way.

God had anointed him king, and he wasn’t king yet, so God wasn’t done.

Your story isn’t over and God‘s not done with you either. Maybe everybody views you as the best. Maybe no one does. What God says about you matters more. And what God says about your future matters more.

Today's Bible reading is 1 Samuel 29.
