Some things are just better than others, and every day we choose between the good and the best. One way we make that choice is when we decide to settle for a partial victory or go on to a complete victory.
Partial victories are great, but complete victories are even better.
Judges 1:27, 29-31, 33 says, “Neither did Manasseh drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and her towns…
“Neither did Ephraim drive out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer…
“Neither did Asher drive out…
“Neither did Naphtali drive out...”
Israel failed to completely conquer the enemy even though God empowered them to do so.
These enemies to God, God’s people, and the truth even for a time pushed Israelites around: “And the Amorites forced the children of Dan into the mountain: for they would not suffer them to come down to the valley:” (Judges 1:34)
Ungodly people in the Promised Land would end up becoming temptations and stumbling blocks to Israel.
Victories are great, but partial victories over sin allow sin to keep coming back. Jesus makes complete victory possible. We won’t be sinless, but we can keep making progress.
Don’t let sin and temptation hang out and feel right at home in your life. We don’t need to let any sin push us around or defeat us.
