“Why don’t Christians care about poor people?”

This question and human issue has gotten politicized to the point that it can be difficult to even see the truth, but the simple fact is: Christians do care about poor people and do a lot of charitable giving, volunteering, and caring. 

I wish that were true for all Christians, but there are some who go against the Bible and ignore the need around them.

Deuteronomy 15:11 says, “For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.”

We do need to be wise and Spirit-led with how we help people so that it actually genuinely helps but we should never ignore the need around us.

From Christian charities to generous, loving individual Christians, it wouldn’t be true to say that Christians don’t care about the poor. And it is definitely true to say that God has a heart for those in need. Need comes in many forms, but  we all have opportunities to be the hands and feet of Jesus and help meet many needs.
