We can’t go whatever way we want without consequences

If you’ve ever driven through downtown Chambersburg, you’ve probably noticed how confusing the square is! The fountain is beautiful, so we don’t want it to constantly be hit by cars. But it really does seem like a roundabout. Hopefully these new signs will help everyone know which ways they are allowed to go.

We can’t drive the wrong way and expect things to go well, and we can’t go our own way in life and expect things to go well either.

We can choose our sin, but we can’t choose the consequences of our sin.

Numbers‬ ‭25‬:‭6‬-‭7‬ ‭says, “And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;”

Most of the Israelites were repenting of their ungodly relationships and the idol worship those relationships led to. But this one guy went so far the other way he actually flaunted his immoral relationship.

Phinehas stepped up and did what it took to stop their sin and stand against it.

While I don’t think any of us are flaunting our sins publicly or doing anything worthy of instant death, we all need to consider the consequences of our choices and repent quickly when we need to.

After all, God’s way truly is the best way.

Today’s Bible reading is Numbers 25.
