Some jobs don’t seem that important…until they stop getting done!
Packing for a trip is not a strong suit for me, and that’s an understatement! Thankfully Jen and Addison did an excellent job packing the other day while Brooklyn helped with yard cleanup from the storm (She moved about half a tree off the lawn!) Kinda simple things but definitely noticeable if they don’t get done well.
Numbers 4 describes responsibilities for some of the people as the tabernacle would need to be moved during travel times. Verses 4-5 says, “This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things: 5 And when the camp setteth forward, Aaron shall come, and his sons, and they shall take down the covering vail, and cover the ark of testimony with it:”
The chapter goes on to describe how
the families of the Gershonites would “bear the curtains of the tabernacle” among other jobs and the sons of Merari would take care of “the boards of the tabernacle, and the bars thereof, and the pillars thereof, and sockets thereof” among other responsibilities.
Imagine if those things didn’t happen as the tabernacle was moved! Literal holes would appear!
The holes left when you or I don’t do our God-given jobs might not always be literal, but they are always significant.
Churches don’t function properly without everyone doing their parts. Families struggle without “all hands on deck.” And the Gospel will always move forward best when we are all involved in the ways God calls us each to.
Today’s Bible reading is Numbers 4.
