Looks good!
Doing whatever we want looks good…at first. But it often doesn’t works out well in the end.
This looks like some delicious cotton candy, but it’s actually fiberglass insulation! No, I didn’t have the kids or anyone eat it, but it does illustrate how we need to follow God’s wisdom, not whatever seems right to us in the moment.
Warning like the one God gives in Leviticus 26:14-16 are done out of love: “But if ye will not hearken unto me, and will not do all these commandments; and if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, but that ye break my covenant: I also will do this unto you; I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.”
That sounds kind of harsh, but it’s really loving since it is true and God wanted them to avoid that outcome.
The Bible warns us about a lot of pitfalls and tells us how we can have wisdom and avoid them. We don’t have to try it for ourselves. In fact, we can avoid a lot of heartache and problems by simply following the warnings God gives us.
Today’s Bible reading is Leviticus 26.
