That came a long way!
Jen and I got to stroll along the James River yesterday and found this coconut. It obviously traveled long distance as it collected those barnacles and came up to Virginia.
That’s kinda like us: We’ve each come a long way. Most people don’t know everything we’ve gone through, but we still have a long way to go.
Numbers 20:1-2 says, “Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there. 2 And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.”
Verses 10-11 say, “And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock? 11 And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.”
God had told Moses to speak to the rock this time, so striking it was disobedience.
We can understand or at least imagine how difficult it must’ve been for Moses to carry on under all that pressure and grief, but he probably spent the rest of his life wishing he would’ve made a better decision in that one moment.
Let’s not let one decision ruin years of faithfulness in our own walk with God no matter what else is going on.
And when the warning signs are there for a bad decision or an emotional decision, let’s help ourselves and others be wise and make right, Biblical decisions.
Today’s Bible reading is Numbers 20.
