What do you prefer to wear to church?
I’ll “suit up” for church tomorrow, but I’ll be in jeans and a t-shirt by the afternoon.
I’m glad I can dress up for church and help honor God and set a proper tone for services, but I definitely realize the heart we come to God with matters far more than the clothes we come to church in.
Exodus 39:1-2 says, “And of the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made cloths of service, to do service in the holy place, and made the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses. 2 And he made the ephod of gold, blue, and purple, and scarlet, and fine twined linen.”
The high priest wore an ephod, a special garment that even held the Urim and Thummim (in the breastplate) that were the lots that were cast back then to seek God’s will about a question or decision.
We now have direct, constant access to God.
Ephesians 2:18 says, “For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.”
Hebrews 4:14-15 says, “Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.”
We don’t need to dress a certain way to come to God, but we do need to come to God.
And we don’t need to cast lots to find out the will of God, but we do need to come to His Word for wisdom and have a heart that’s willing to do whatever God wants, not whatever we want.
Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 39.
