Which traffic sign is the hardest for you to follow?
Maybe speed limits seem too slow? Maybe you don’t like being told which way to go or even where you can’t go.
Those are probably some of the same times it’s hardest to follow God as well.
Exodus 13:17-18 says, “And it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God led them not through the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, Lest peradventure the people repent when they see war, and they return to Egypt: but God led the people about, through the way of the wilderness of the Red sea: and the children of Israel went up harnessed out of the land of Egypt.”
Moses and the Israelites probably didn’t understand the detour, but it was for the best.
Sometimes God takes us the long way so we avoid dangers we may not even see.
Exodus 13:21-22 says, “And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: he took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, from before the people.”
God doesn’t always lead the direction we expect or at the speed we’d prefer, but He always leads perfectly.
Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 13.
