What changed on Good Friday?
I love the song lyric that says, “Friday’s good ‘cause Sunday is coming,” but on that dark night, everything looked hopeless.
Literal darkness had fallen hours earlier as Jesus hung on the cross. Luke 23:45 says, “And the sun was darkened, and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.”
There a lot of amazing thoughts we can ponder as we approach Easter Sunday, and Exodus 3:4-5 highlights one of them: “And when the LORD saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I. And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.”
At the burning bush, we see Moses unable to approach God, but we also see God coming to Moses.
Now we celebrate how around 2,000 years ago God Himself came to earth, lived a perfect, sinless life, and went willingly to the cross to pay for our sins.
Friday is good ‘cause Sunday is coming, and Jesus’ death gives us access to God through faith. The veil separating people from God’s presence in the temple was torn. Through Jesus, we can come to God.
And it’s all because Jesus willingly came to us. Have you come to Him?
If so, enjoy the greatest privilege of the Christian life: spending time with our Savior. Right right now it’s through prayer; one day it’ll be face-to-face.
Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 3.
