We have the right…

People have the right to take over land with solar panels, but that doesn’t mean it’s the best thing for the area.

Not trying to get too opinionated on that issue, but I do want to dig in just a bit into the topic of rights.

Criminals have the right to remain silent but not always the ability 🤣

We have the right to exercise religious freely, but we don’t always exercise that right in the best ways.

Rights don’t guarantee that we use them the right way. That’s up to us.

Exodus 21:1 says, “Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.”

The Old Testament law consisted of much more than the 10 commandments. Here in the very next chapter we see God laying out judgments, rules. And wouldn’t you know it, those rules focus on rights and protections for people.

In America we still follow some of the same distinctions in things like premeditated murder verses second degree murder and different consequences for each.

Sometimes it’s tempting to see we how far we can bend rules or how much we can get away with, but God’s rules are there for our good.

We aren’t under the Old Testament law anymore, but we should choose to willing stay within God’s boundaries and recognize that they’re there to help our lives not to ruin our lives.

Rights often give us the freedom to live right, but it’s up to us to actually do it.

Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 21.
