Trapped!
We are now the proud owners of a Venus fly trap! As much of a science nerd as I am, it was Jen who bought it for Brooklyn (who loves science a lot!).
Haven’t seen it catch any flies yet, but the trap is set!
Some traps we can see coming, and a lot of spiritual traps are avoidable.
Exodus 10:7 says, “And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?”
The plagues had essentially destroyed Egypt, and yet Pharaoh still clung to his sin and selfishness. He was so trapped he couldn’t even see it! That’s a dangerous place for any of us to be!
Addiction and really any sin can blind us and trap us to the point we don’t even fully notice our world falling apart. That’s when it’s time to run to Jesus and get the deliverance and hope only He offers.
Based on verses like Exodus 10:27, some would claim that Pharaoh was trapped by God or born to be trapped in sin: “But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.”
But God didn’t block Pharaoh from repentance or salvation. After Pharaoh rejected God and Godly wisdom one too many times, God allowed Pharaoh to continue down the foolish path toward his own just consequences.
As one commentator sums it up: “God allowed him to have what he sinfully desired — a hard heart against the LORD and His people.”
God won’t make us sin or tempt us to sin, but He will still bring about His perfect plan no matter whether we choose to be a part of it or not.
Rejecting God is the worst and most dangerous trap of all, but thankfully Jesus made the way out of the trap available to all of us.
Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 10.
