Is it still lucky if it only have 3 leaves?☘️
It’s fun to watch kids hunt for a four leaf clover, and it’s even amusing to joke about good luck charms sometimes. But it’s scary when we start to treat God like some sort of good luck charm.
God is all-powerful. That means He’s bigger than we are; He has bigger plans and a better understanding than we can even grasp. We shouldn’t try to use Him or manipulate Him. We should come to Him humbly, eager to follow His plan instead of trying to force Him to help us with our plan.
In Exodus 17, Moses does a great job of relying on God’s power and recognizing that the power comes from God not a good luck charm.
Exodus 17:8-9 says, “Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim. 9 And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.”
Moses sought God. The rod was a reminder of God’s power because it reminded Moses and others of what God had already done for them. It wasn’t a secret weapon or good luck charm but a reminder of their dependence on God.
Exodus 17:11-12 says, “And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed: and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. 12 But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.”
Maybe you’re on the front lines like Joshua. Maybe you’re in the background like Moses was here. Or maybe like Aaron and Hur, your role is to support someone else in their service to God. No matter what your God-given role looks like right now, seek God’s power for the battle.
Today’s Bible reading is Exodus 17.
