How to respond to what we can’t ignore
Bella was out cold asleep on the living room floor when I decided to give both of our dogs treats. Cleo had already gotten her treat, so Bella had to get one whether she was awake or not. I went over to put it in front of her nose, saw her eyes open, and the treat didn’t last long after that.
Even when dead asleep, a dog just simply can’t ignore a treat.
There are a lot of realities revealed all around us in the world God created that are things we just simply can’t ignore.
Job 39 describes several of those realities, and they all point to God and His power.
In Job 39:19-22, God says this about the horse: “Hast thou given the horse strength? hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? 20 Canst thou make him afraid as a grasshopper? the glory of his nostrils is terrible. 21 He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. 22 He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword.”
Job 40:3-5 says, “Then Job answered the LORD, and said, Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth. Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: Yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.”
God never told Job what to do, but I love Job’s humble, repentant response to God’s awesome power.
How should we respond to power that’s beyond us? With humility. With worship. With repentance any time that’s needed.
God is all powerful. He’s beyond us in wisdom and accomplishments. That should inspire us to listen to Him and eagerly follow Him.
We don’t need to reason with God; we need to follow God.
Today’s Bible reading is Job 39 (and a few verses from Job 40!).
