How to know if you talk too much

How fast can you talk? How fast can you TYPE?!? At this point are we faster typing with our thumbs on a smartphone than an actual keyboard?

Proverbs 10:19 says, “In the multitude of words there wanteth not sin: but he that refraineth his lips is wise.”

It’s easy for any of us to talk (or type) more than we should. And it’s more about how we use our words than our personality.

In Job 32, Elihu speaks for the first time.

Job 32:18 says, “For I am full of matter,

the spirit within me constraineth me.”

Elihu was full of words (but not always wisdom) and led by his own spirit but not necessarily the Holy Spirit.

If we think we might be talking too much, I think 2 good places to start are:

  1. Listen more than you talk. Elihu gives a longer response than God’s (6 straight chapters) of uninterrupted lecture.

  1. Listen to God, not just other people. As far as we know, Elihu never even paused for a response from God, Job, or the other guys there.
