Don’t assume
It sure looks like we pulled up and knocked over that parking bumper…but we didn’t. Looks can be deceiving, and it’s way too easy to assume things that aren’t true.
In Job 15:14-16, Eliphaz says, “What is man, that he should be clean? And he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous? Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; Yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight. How much more abominable and filthy is man, Which drinketh iniquity like water?”
Eliphaz was right that people are sinful, but he really assumes a lot of things about God that simply aren’t true.
Does God just condemn? Does He only allow perfect people to come to Him? Of course not! Yes we are all sinners, and that’s just the kind of people God loves to save.
God isn’t up in heaven looking down on us with hatred and anger. He looks at us with love and compassion. If we reject His free gift of salvation, that’s on us, but His love never fails.
Today’s Bible reading is Job 15.
