What bums you out?
The end of football season? The way your team’s doing? The fact that tomorrow’s Monday???
Genesis 40:6-8 says, “And Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and looked upon them, and, behold, they were sad. 7 And he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in the ward of his lord's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sadly to day? 8 And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell me them, I pray you.”
They were in prison, and yet on this occasion it was the fact that they didn’t know what their dreams meant that had them bummed out.
God was clearly speaking to them through these dreams and using them as a part of Joseph’s story.
Today God doesn’t speak primarily through dreams; He speaks primarily through the Bible. But it makes me sad that we don’t often get bummed out over not knowing what the Bible means. We often just shrug and move on.
They were sad that they couldn’t understand what the message in their dreams meant. We don’t have to get bummed out by not understanding the Bible, but we should be willing to dig deeper.
Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 40.
