God changes people
I love the image of our church’s cross in that field of snow.
Psalms 51:7 says, “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.”
Coming to God for salvation changes everything because it changes us.
Hopelessness gets replaced with hope. Devastation gets replaced with purpose and a future. Drifting through life gets replaced with a relationship with the Creator of all life.
Coming to God changes people.
Genesis 33:8-9 says, “And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my Lord. And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.”
Jacob met up with his brother Esau after many years. When we last saw them together, Esau wanted to kill Jacob for stealing his blessing. Jacob couldn’t wait to get all he could even if it meant stealing.
And now Jacob is being lavishly generous while Esau kindly tries to refuse the gift.
While we don’t know a lot about Esau’s spiritual state (and what we do know is cause for concern), Jacob has been eternally changed by God, and it shows.
What change do you need to come to God for today? Who do you need to pray that God will change? With God, there’s no reason to give up.
Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 33.
