Would you get along with yourself?

These pictures are some of the first of our family that I used in a daily devotional, almost exactly 4 years ago! Just a wonderful memory! Looking back can be fun, but do you ever cringe when you look back at yourself from years ago?

Genesis‬ ‭31‬:‭41‬-‭42‬ ‭says, “Thus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters, and six years for thy cattle: and thou hast changed my wages ten times. Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me, surely thou hadst sent me away now empty. God hath seen mine affliction and the labour of my hands, and rebuked thee yesternight.”

Jacob got to see firsthand the kind of deceit and manipulation out of Laban that he used to be guilty of himself…and he didn’t like it! Years later, we find Jacob walking with God, having grown a lot.

I hope we each grow so much that we can be excited (and maybe even a little regretful) as we look back at where we used to be.

And when we see others struggling with temptations Jesus has brought us through, let’s be eager to extend grace and help where we can.

Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 31.
