What are your goals for the new year?

We’ve enjoyed ringing in the new year with a fairly relaxed family day. We’ve gotten some work done but mostly enjoyed a laid-back time together.

I’m sure we all have goals for 2026, and rightly so. Genesis 2:24-25 brings up what can be an amazing goal: living with no shame: “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.”

Having no shame can be a terrible thing or the best thing ever.

At this point in human history, Adam and Eve had no shame because they had no sin.

There are things we should be ashamed of, and that shame should drive us to Jesus, not away from Him.

But through Jesus, we can also live victorious lives where we overcome sin and temptation and live without shame, nothing to hide.

And thankfully Jesus offers forgiveness and hope that can overcome the shame of past mistakes.

Through Jesus, we can move forward into 2026 with the right mindset.

If you’d like to read through the Old Testament with us, today’s reading is Genesis 2.
