The quickest way to be wrong

Jen and I like to joke, but in any sort of conflict, we usually realize we were both wrong.

I think the quickest way to be wrong in a relationship is to assume that we’re right and stop listening to the other person.

And the quickest way to be wrong in so many areas of life is to stop listening to God or to change what He has clearly said.

Genesis 3:1-3 says, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? 2 And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: 3 But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”

“Yea, hath God said”

Satan will whisper that question to us.

Circumstances and temptation will ask us.

Our own doubts will bring that question to mind sometimes.

And our answer question determines so much.

Tragically, Eve added to what God had said (God didn’t say the “neither shall ye touch it” part). She doubted God’s goodness, and then she broke God’s only rule at that time.

We need to know what God has said in His Word, and we need to follow it instead of changing it or doubting it.

God will always lead us right.

If you’d like to read through the Old Testament with us, today’s reading is Genesis 3.
