Oil and water don’t mix…unless they’re in a cake!

I was mixing up cake batter for Brooklyn’s birthday cake pancakes the other day and it hit me: Oil and water automatically separate, but they stay together with a cake mix added in.

Some part of my brain already knew that I’m sure. but it’s kind of fun that cake mix of all things can be the missing ingredient!

Sometimes the “missing ingredient” in our lives is God. We just wanna live for ourselves, but then we remember everything God has done for us. Then it all fits together.

Genesis‬ ‭28‬:‭20‬-‭22‬ says, “And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on, so that I come again to my father's house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God: and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God's house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.”

I love Jacob’s generous response here!

It’s easy to wonder, “Why does God want my money?” The simple answer is He doesn’t! Everything we have is His and comes from Him. How gracious of Him to allow us to keep 90% of His money!

Why would we not want to give back to God? Why would we not want to be a part of what He is doing?

And money is often the easiest thing to give. We should be eager to give our time and use our talents and resources and everything He has given us for God.

If we give ourselves to God, giving money to His work on earth will be no problem.

Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 28.
