Why is Christmas so merry, anyway?
I love my new socks! They’re just so…me!🤣
I mentioned personalized socks as a gag gift in a sermon illustration several weeks ago, and my amazing wife went home and ordered me a pair! They are a lot of fun, but I think they sadly reflect the attitude it’s so easy for us to take in life.
Why is Christmas so merry? I believe it’s because, at its heart, Christmas is all about Jesus, not us. If you’ve ever seen a selfish kid (or adult) throw a tantrum over what gifts they got or didn’t get, it’s obvious that selfishness can ruin a merry Christmas, at least for the moment.
But Jesus can not only make December 25 merry but all year long as well.
Revelation 16:5 says, “And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.”
Jesus has always been, but He entered our world in a moment of time.
There’s a lot of punishment in view in Revelation. Jesus knows sin has to be punished. That’s why He came: not to punish us but to offer us the only possible way to escape punishment.
If you’ve been forgiven by Jesus, that’s enough to make every day truly merry.
