Be more interested in God’s praise than our own
We had a wonderful time at our Thanksgiving praise meal tonight! Good food, good people, and opportunities to praise God!
Praise can be a funny thing, especially when we’re the ones being praised.
Proverbs 27:21 says, “As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; So is a man to his praise.”
Praise often brings more people down that criticism. Criticism gives the opportunity to grow, but praise often leads to pride.
Test it.
Mark Twain said, “I can live a whole week off of one good compliment.” We all need people to recognize the good that we are doing, but we should never fall for false praise or people just “buttering us up.” And we should never allow genuine praise to puff us up or make us think it’s us when it’s really God working in us.
