Don’t get stuck where you are, even at Halloween
I respect those who skip Halloween altogether, and I respect those who enjoy the fun of it (Addison and Brooklyn certainly do!).
Obviously there’s some dark stuff to avoid but that’s true of every single day (our days themselves are named after false gods, such as Wednesday named for the false god woden (odin)—woden’s day!)
I believe it helps to remember on a day like Halloween that we shouldn’t get so hung up on any issue that we stop growing in Christ.
Hebrews 6:1-2 says, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”
“Go on unto perfection”
Don’t get so hung up on any issue that we stop growing in Christ.
One way to avoid getting stuck like that is to make sure we don’t condemn other Christians because they have a different view on an issue that’s not specifically addressed in the Bible.
Romans 14:5 says this about the Sabbath day: “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”
Fully persuaded: On gray areas, we should form an opinion based on Scripture, but we shouldn’t insist that everyone believe the same as us when the Bible doesn’t come out and address that issue.
And we should never let anything—any challenge, any question, any trial, or anything else—keep us from growing in Christ, moving on a little more toward perfection every day.
