Where do you look for justice?
Where we look for justice often shows what kind of justice we actually want.
I figured the courthouse in downtown Chambersburg was a good place to picture justice. I’m thankful I’ve never had to sit for a verdict or go there to seek justice, and I am thankful for our justice system. It’s not perfect, but it is something to be thankful for here in America
A lot of times we don’t really want justice even when we think we do. It’s all too easy to want our version of justice. Much better to seek after God and His justice.
Psalm 109 is one of David’s imprecatory Psalms where he is praying for swift and strong justice. The prayers often sound harsh, and it’s good that God didn’t immediately say yes to everything David’s asked for. But I gotta hand it to David for going to God for justice.
Psalm 109:1 says, “Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;”
Verses 6-7 say, “Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. 7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.”
David is obviously angry in this Psalm and all of the imprecatory Psalms he wrote. He took his anger and desire for justice/revenge to the right place and got right results even if they weren’t immediate. He also seems to have often gotten his own heart changed as well.
If we’re humble enough to realize we need God’s strength and help throughout each day for ourselves, let’s also look to Him for justice.
We can’t get through a day without God; let’s not try to get justice without Him either.
