Then and now: I sometimes sit back and wonder how our dog Cleo and especially our daughter Addison have grown so much so fast! A lot of times we don’t notice spiritual growth as easily as physical growth, but it’s just as possible.
Colossians 3 has some great advice:
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
If we want to grow spiritually, we need to think about spiritual, eternal things, not just what’s right in front of our faces.
“Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:”
We need to end the sin in our lives. Don’t keep it hanging around.
“Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts”
Intentionally living like Jesus will always help us grow.
Verse 17 sums it all up:
“And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”
Colossians 3:17
“In Jesus’ name” is a perfect way to live, not just a way to end a prayer.
