Home of the original Philly cheesesteak: Both Pat’s and Geno’s claim the title, so we got one from each! Very similar sandwiches, and Lundys are divided on which we like better.
Fun way to cap off our trip to Philadelphia, and this debate probably doesn’t really matter since both can win and even share the “top spot.” Sometimes that’s not the case though.
1 Corinthians 14:12 says, “Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.”
Back then, there was a lot of focus on speaking in tongues. Apparently it had become the focus for the Corinthian church even more than preaching and teaching which more easily edified and built up the church.
While I believe the gift of speaking in tongues has ceased today, the issue of what we need most as Christians continues.
What’s most important in a church service?
Maybe today it’s more a choice between a church service that makes us feel good about ourselves or one that genuinely helps us grow.
And it’s not always one or the other, but there can be only one top priority in a church. Emotional experience should fuel our worship, but we have to make sure clear truth is driving it.
