Comparison is a dangerous thing! Someone will always have a nicer truck, a bigger house, a better job, go on better vacations, wear nicer clothes, have more success, or simply have a life we wish we had. But they might be the ones looking at us and wishing they had what we have. Really, if we have Jesus as our Savior and the life He has designed for us, we should be content.
2 Corinthians has some helpful things to say about comparison. 2 Corinthians 10:17-18 says, “But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord. For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.”
It’s not how we compare to others, and it’s not what we say about ourselves that matters most. It’s what God says about us.
And one of the most amazing things God says about us is found in Romans 5:8: “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
Even at our worst, God loves us perfectly and has a perfect plan for our lives. Let’s be eager and content to follow that plan no matter what His plan looks like for anyone else.
