Their needs versus my wants

It was a great week at Camp Wild for our whole family! Today I had the privilege to teach a lesson, and I really enjoyed it. I have to admit though, I really wanted to sleep in and take it easy. Sometimes what other people need matters a lot more than what we want. Actually, that’s probably most of the time!

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭8‬:‭1‬ ‭says, “Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.”

There was nothing mystical about meat that had been placed in front of some fake wood/metal idol. And in fact, I believe it was less expensive because it was a little less fresh after the “sacrifice.” The meat was still just meat, but the involvement in sacrifices made it seem wrong to some new Christians who had recently come out of idolatry.

So it came down to a choice between convenience and what would genuinely help people spiritually.

‭‭I like Paul’s take on it in verse 13‬: “Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.”

Let’s be willing to be inconvenienced to help other people with real needs.
