I’m definitely glad to be married because I’m married to Jen! I’m so thankful for my amazing, beautiful wife and can’t imagine life without her.
We’ve tried to spend at least a little bit of time together even during a busy ministry week, and we’ve always known that God’s plan is best. We enjoyed following God when we were single, and now it’s wonderful to serve God together for over 14 years.
Singleness or marriage are both a blessing if they are led by God and both missing the best part if they aren’t led by God.
1 Corinthians 7:7 says, “For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.”
And verses 32-33 say, “But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord: 33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.”
In context, Paul wasn’t saying that married people can’t care about God, but many times a relationship (even a friendship) can be a huge distraction from God. What a privilege to follow God with those closest to us, but let’s focus most on following God even if that means being alone. After all, if it’s a choice between a relationship and God’s best or a bunch of friends and God’s best, it really should be an easy choice.
