Not a normal way to run!

Had a great time with my mom, dad, and mother in law at the Greene Township Park this evening! The girls played on the playground for a while, but then they really  wanted to show Grandma, Grandpa, and Memaw this exercise equipment there.

We all did pretty well running on this obstacle, but it would be weird to keep running like that once we got back to normal. Sometimes normal is good, but other times it’s a mistake to go back to normal default mode.

John 21:3 says, “Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee. They went forth, and entered into a ship immediately; and that night they caught nothing.”

Nothing wrong with fishing, but Jesus was calling Peter to do something bigger than that normal “default mode.” Verses 13-14 says, “Jesus then cometh, and taketh bread, and giveth them, and fish likewise. 14 This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.” Jesus went on to restore His relationship with Peter and call Peter to do great things.

There were 40 days between Jesus’ resurrection and His ascension back to heaven. He was with His disciples during some of that time, but He apparently wasn’t constantly with them. So they had some “normal times” during those 40 days as well. And they had the opportunity to use the “big times” and the normal times to grow and make a difference. They never had to go back to normal during normal times, and neither do we.

Maybe church services are often big times of worship and decision for you. Maybe for you it’s the milestones of getting saved, getting baptized, and making decisions for Jesus. But we can and should keeping growing and moving forward during normal times as well.

Jesus calls us to something greater than  going back to normal during normal times.
