Needs versus wants

I can get into a good ice cream sandwich, but I love how this brand just lays it right out there! I’m not a fan of low-fat ice cream, but this name just seems a little bit insulting! No, we didn’t buy them, but we did have some other tasty treats later today. 😏

Maybe you can relate to needing to eat better but wanting ice cream. Or needing to read your Bible but wanting to sleep late. We could probably go on and on about needs versus wants, but what’s amazing is that even though God doesn’t need us, He wants a relationship with us!

Psalms 50:8-12 says, “I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. 9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. 10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. 11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.”

The Old Testament sacrificial system pointed to Jesus, and even though it’s over and done with now, the message of these verses still applies today. God doesn’t need our stuff, but He wants us to be a part of His plan.

God doesn’t need anything from us, but He always wants what’s best for us. And He wants a daily, close relationship with each of us.
