Harsh words hardly ever help

I love my daughters, and I’ve noticed something about them: They aren’t perfect! They’re wonderful girls, but like the rest of us, they do wrong sometimes. And I’ve also noticed that my response to them at those times is often imperfect as well. There really are helpful and harmful ways we can respond to people. What we say and how we say it can make a huge difference.

Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”

When we’re talking to an angry or struggling person, we can give a soft answer that helps or a sharp, angry, grievous answer that will often direct their anger straight at us.

Let’s allow the Holy Spirit to lead our words and the heart behind our words.
