Is rain bad news or good news?

We got to go see our friend Kendra at the Milky Way restaurant where she works, and while we were eating, the rainstorm came. The girls definitely enjoyed watching it from the entryway, but for you is rain good news or bad news?

It can ruin plans and put a downer on a day. But it can also keep crops, gardens, and lawns alive and growing (and a good thunderstorm usually brings in some cooler weather!). As with many things, we have to understand both the good news and the bad news.

Isaiah‬ ‭65‬:‭19‬  “And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.” Even in a book of the Bible that describes a lot of punishment and consequences coming to Israel because of their sin, God still focused on restoration and the good news.

Yes God’s standards point out where we fall short. But the good news is that God points out our need so that He can encourage us to come to Him to have our needs met.

Are we sometimes better at sharing the bad news than the good news?

Romans 6:23 is a great verse about salvation: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

It’s really strange if we focus mostly on the first part of the verse! Sadly, it’s easy to focus on the consequences we think others deserve instead of the hope, change, and salvation that Jesus can bring them and us.
