As eternal beings, should we care about temporary things?

It’s easy to think that only eternal things matter and that everything else is no more valuable than yesterday’s trash since it’ll all fade away and be gone soon. But just because eternal things matter the most doesn’t mean they’re the only things that matter.

In fact if people matter, then what they care about has to matter. Their needs have to matter.

Psalms 140:12 says, “I know that the LORD will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor.”

Proverbs 29:7 says, “The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it.”

Whether it’s poverty or some other affliction, God cares about our temporary needs, and that proves just how much He cares about us.

It’s easy to think that non-spiritual things don’t matter, but because people matter, their needs matter. And they’ll be more likely to listen to us talk about eternal things if they can tell how much we care about them.
