It’s our turn now

Have you ever heard the expression “passing the mantle”? This is the “mantle” that was passed to me from the retiring pastor on my first Sunday at Calvary. He was great during the transition, but it is also such an honor and a responsibility to figuratively wear that mantle now.

2 Kings‬ ‭2‬:‭14‬ ‭says, “And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.”

‭‭

Can you imagine being Elisha here? He got to see Elijah do amazing miracles through God‘s power, but now it was his turn. Now it was his responsibility. Thankfully, Elisha knew where to look for help and power.

And thankfully we can look there too.

In Acts 1:8 Jesus says, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

If we’ve seen Jesus do the miracle of saving our soul, it’s our turn to get busy for Him now. Thankfully the power doesn’t have to come from us, just the willingness.
