Because I post Bible devotionals on a variety of social media platforms, I get to interact with a lot of people and hear their thoughts on God’s Word. I hear from many people who like the Bible and view it as a good thing. But sadly it seems to be a much smaller group that will and commit to following everything it says instead of picking and choosing, “shopping around” for what they want to hear.
2 Chronicles 10:6-8 says, “And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people? And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever. But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him”
Sometimes Godly advice comes straight from the Bible, sometimes from a preacher, and sometimes from a friend. We can humbly submit to Biblical truth and Godly advice and grow, or we can fight against God.
Many people don’t outright reject the Bible. They just “shop around” for verses they can misinterpret to fit what they want to hear or advice that lets them continue to go the wrong direction they’re leaning toward.
Let’s humbly take advice from God’s Word and anyone God sends our way to help us instead of “shopping around” for an easier message to listen to.
