Can you spot the fake?
The greatest protection against lies is truth. I’ve always heard that the Secret Service will take a new recruit and make them study real money so intensely that they can easily recognize a fake bill. They don’t have to study the counterfeits when they know the real thing well enough.
1 Kings 13:18 says, “He said unto him, I am a prophet also as thou art; and an angel spake unto me by the word of the LORD, saying, Bring him back with thee into thine house, that he may eat bread and drink water. But he lied unto him.” That second prophet claimed to be speaking for God there, but he lied. He made it up.
Instead of falling for lies or believing everything we’re told about God, we should do what the Berean Christians did and dig into the Bible for ourselves: “they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.” (Acts 17:11)
Let’s know the truth so well that we won’t fall for the lies our culture, the devil, and even our own wrong desires throw at us.
