Ever wish you could make something disappear? You can make the words disappear right off a piece of paper…as long as you’ve got a lighter and the right kind of pen.
Sadly, people back in Jesus’ day wanted to make Him disappear, to go away, no matter what it took.
In Luke 23:14-15, Pilate declares Jesus’ innocence: “Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him: 15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.” People went on to crucify Jesus anyway.
They didn’t crucify Jesus for His sin. They crucified Him for revealing their sin! Jesus never sinned, never did even one wrong thing. And yet He willingly died a cruel criminal’s death for your sins and mine. He rose again, and He wants to forgive us for all our sins if we’ll trust Him as Savior.
That’s a real solution, not a trick. It’s easy to want to cover up our sin or to silence the voice of anyone who points out our sin, but that will always keep us from salvation and growth.
