Fun little experiment I had never tried before: Use a hair dryer—or even better a leaf blower— and see how high you can unroll some toilet paper by just blowing across the top of it. Fun demonstration of the science behind airplane flight as well as a fun thing to do with my girls (and thankfully they helped clean up the mess afterward!)
I’ll admit it only took about 10 seconds to unroll that toilet paper, and then the mess had to be cleaned up.
A lot of things sound like fun to try but make a real mess in the end (and a lot of those messes are way more serious than a roll of toilet paper!)
Daniel 5:2 says, “Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein.” Verse 4 says that “They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.”
He thought he was king of the world and could mock God by drinking out of the vessels originally dedicated to the temple of God. He thought he’d won, but he was really just digging a deeper hole and making a bigger mess.
It’s easy to look at the temporary that we’ve “won” and forget all about what we’ve lost.
“I got away with it” are famous last words! Belshazzar thought he could get away with it but instead realized that judgment was just around the corner (the writing was literally on the wall!). How about you’ve? Will you turn to God before it’s too late?
Is there anything you think you’re getting away with? Anything you know is wrong. Anything you know you should stop, repent, make right? Any messes you need to clean up?
