Don’t put out the light

Apparently when you mix baking soda and vinegar it not only bubbles but also produces carbon dioxide (I think that’s what actually makes the bubbles!). That carbon dioxide was enough to drive out the oxygen and put out that candle.

We also breathe out carbon dioxide. Let’s make sure that’s the worst thing coming out of our mouths.

A lot more people struggle with depression and deep discouragement than will ever admit it to our face or post about it on social media.

A lot of people deal daily with anxiety that makes it hard for them to even think straight.

People need an encouraging, uplifting, challenging word from us. They have enough other people who are harsh and uncaring in their lives already I’m sure.

1 Thessalonians 5:14 says, “Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

There’s a right way to do everything, including helping those who are struggling. Sometimes we do have to challenge people who are doing wrong so that we can help them (after all, I hope people would do that for us). We also need to comfort those who are struggling mentally or physically. A great way to do all of that is to say what we say for their good, not our good.

Jesus is the light of the world. He is working to lead people toward Him. He is shining a light into their lives. Let’s help that light burn brighter, not put it out by the way we treat others.
